Green Policy
At The George & Heart House, we understand the impact our business has on the environment. We are committed to minimizing that impact and conducting our operations in an environmentally responsible way.
To help reduce our environmental footprint, we are actively implementing the following initiatives:
Sustainability in Our Operations
Eco-conscious Decision-Making: We incorporate environmental considerations into our daily decision-making, both at management meetings and in weekly staff discussions.
Staff Training & Engagement: We raise awareness among our staff and encourage sustainable practices through regular training sessions.
Recycling: We recycle paper, newspapers, glass, batteries, fluorescent bulbs, cans, and printer cartridges to reduce waste.
Energy Efficiency: We have a ‘switch off’ policy for office equipment—computers, printers, and lights are turned off when not in use to conserve energy.
Eco-Friendly Cleaning: We are committed to reducing harmful chemicals by replacing them with environmentally friendly cleaning products whenever possible.
Reducing Paper Usage: We minimize paper consumption by communicating electronically and only printing when absolutely necessary.
Encouraging Sustainable Transport: We promote walking, cycling, and the use of public transport by providing guests with information on local walking routes, cycle hire, and bus and tube timetables at Reception. Walking maps to local attractions are available in room directories.
Sustainable Drink Practices: We use biodegradable or reusable straws exclusively in our cocktails and do not offer straws with other drinks to reduce plastic waste.
Energy-Saving Dishwashing: Our glass-wash machine is only used when full, helping us conserve energy.
Ongoing Sustainability Efforts
LED Lighting: We use energy-efficient LED bulbs in all public areas.
Monitoring Resources: We actively monitor our consumption of gas, electricity, and water to ensure we are using resources efficiently.
Waste Reduction: We turn off unnecessary lights and taps, purchase in bulk to reduce packaging waste, and are working towards sourcing more organic, seasonal, and locally-produced food.
Recycled Paper: We are transitioning to recycled paper for brochures and printed materials.
Community Engagement: We participate in local environmental and community projects and use refillable bathroom products to reduce waste.
We are fully committed to complying with all relevant environmental laws, and we regularly review and update our policies to further reduce our environmental impact.
Green Policy for Residential Guests
We encourage our guests to support our sustainability efforts by following these simple actions during their stay:
Turn off lights when leaving the room.
Turn off the television when not in use.
Turn off taps when not in use.
Limit the use of air-conditioning or heating, and ensure it is turned off when windows or doors are open.
Separate newspapers from other waste for recycling.
Together, we can make a significant impact on the environment. Thank you for helping us achieve our sustainability goals.
